About a week ago I was on the hunt for a new face wash because I was running out of my old one (Lush's Ultrabland - would you like a review on it?). So I did my internet research! I had decided that I needed a medicated one because the natural ones just weren't cutting it for me any more. I went on the Neutrogena website and look at the facial cleanser and there were a lot of mixed reviews on it, although mostly positive I was still a little sceptical but I decided to go buy it anyway.
My local Shopper's Drugmart Neutrogena was doing a special offer where if you bought the Neutrogena Oil-Free Redness Soothing Acne Wash Facial Cleanser it came with a full size Gentle Scrub for free! So that made me very happy :)
First I want to clarify that I have sensitive acne-prone skin, Pro-active was too harsh for my skin but non-medicated or non-acne targeted products aren't good enough to keep my acne at bay!
According to the website:
'With naturally soothing aloe and chamomile, Oil-Free Acne Wash Redness Soothing Facial Cleanser powerfully clears away breakouts and blackheads without over-drying and visibly reduces redness caused by acne. This unique foaming cleanser calms irritation so your skin looks and feels clearer and healthier.
Powerfully clears breakouts with Salicylic Acid
Visibly reduces redness and irritation
Microclear® technology
Contains 100% naturally-derived aloe and chamomile'
First I tried the facial cleanser and straight away I noticed how great it smelled, it has a fabulously fresh scent that I can guarantee I will never get sick of! I found one pump to be enough and it lathers up into a nice foam when you put it on your face, the only time I had issues with stinging was when I had a dry patch around the outside of my mouth and on my chin (which wasn't caused by the cleanser), but after using a lot of moisturiser the dry patch was gone and I haven't had issues with the cleanser since. After rinsing it off my skin feels super soft and clean although I feel some tightness. I tend to use a moisturiser afterwards but I also find that after leaving my skin for about 15 minutes it stops being tight. I did see a difference in my skin after about two washes, it definitely helped the redness in my skin.
The next day I used the gentle scrub, it has the same scent as the facial cleanser just a bit stronger. I use about 2 peas worth of the product and that's enough for my whole face. Whilst using the product I didn't have to scrub too much for my skin to feel exfoliated which is nice. After about 5 seconds of it being on my face I start to feel a fresh tingling sensation that lasts the entire time I'm scrubbing and about a minute after rinsing it off, I actually really enjoy that about this scrub! My skin feels so soft and fresh afterwards, there is that small issue of tightness that is pretty much the same as the cleanser but I don't mind it so much as it goes away. I really like this scrub, I think it's a really great exfoliator and it feels great on my skin.
Overall I would recommend both of these products for people with sensitive acne-prone skin! I have to say that they're probably the best drugstore cleanser and exfoliator that I have ever tried, kudos to Neutrogena!
